The mouse cursor on my iMac has a weird habit of jumping around. Eg, I'll be about to close a window, and then the cursor will suddenly jump to the bottom of the screen.
This happens with both my Mighty Mouse, and a Microsoft one...
Any ideas...?

The mouse cursor on my iMac has a weird habit of jumping around. Eg, I'll be about to close a window, and then the cursor will suddenly jump to the bottom of the screen.
This happens with both my Mighty Mouse, and a Microsoft one...
Any ideas...?
So I'm not the only one who's noticed this; using mighty mouse or logitech G5.
It seems to me there is a flaw in how acceleration is applied because the jumping is lessened as the acceleration factor is turned down. Just a guess, but there might be issues of how acceleration is applied in light of the queued mouse event model.
Would be nice if we could turn off acceleration completely and discretely adjust mouse sensitivity. Apple's mouse acceleration curve is ghastly.

Thank you caveman - it HAS to be a bug in the OSX usb drivers - but what amazes me is the huge volume of reports of this issue and yet nobody has a solution that works. I have had an open thread on this in the Apple discussion forums for over a year - "unresolved" !!
Please, Apple, can we have a fix ? - my daughter's iMac is unusable !!

What surface is your mouse used on? Reflective surfaces can cause optical mice to behave wildly.
I would recommend trying a few different type mouse pads and see how they affect this issue.

Same goes for you, dgilchri. I've had this happen once or twice over the past few years, but I'd be willing to bet that if her iMac is truly unusable because of this issue, the cause may be something other than a bug in the driver.
I was having the same issue with my Logitech USB laser mouse on my i5 recently. The jumpy cursor seemed to pop up after I installed a Spyder3 USB screen calibrator. Turned out that was just a coincidence.
In my case I did a permissions repair in Disk Utility and the jumping cursor was gone! Can't guarantee it will work for you but at least worth a try. Cheers!

Turn off AirPort
Turning off AirPort worked for me; maybe if the AirPort were actually being used, it would not have time to confuse the cursor. As it is, I can use ethernet port.
