Mouse & keyboard and macOS 11

So; against my better judgement I installed macOS 11 on my 2018 iMac and found that I couldn't get a wired keyboard or mouse to work.

I tried 5 mice and 4 keyboards.

So I never managed to log in.

Spent some time reverting via the "good offices" of Time Machine.

If I could find out how to get mouse & keyboard working I'd try again.

Try to reset the SMC (not PRAM) to get USB connections refreshed.

Hey-Ho: but am not really sure whether I want to go all the way through the upgrade to try that on a whim.
