mouse scrolling trackball malfunction cleaning repair
The trackball and the surfaces it rides on become contaminated with body oils mixed with dirt. It causes slippage between the trackball and its optic wheels underneath.
A good solution to clean the trackball components, without dismantling the mouse, begins with the following:
1. Freshly washed dry hands 2. Common household isopropyl alcohol 3. A q-tip cotton swab, 4. Clean lint free cloth.
Lightly touch a q-tip dipped in alcohol to the trackball, making it roll in all directions. Be careful not to allow q-tip fibers to be caught in the trackball.
Immediately following, press and roll vigorously the trackball with a clean finger in all directions working in the alcohol to break up contaminates on both the trackball and the surfaces it rides on underneath.
Immediately next, roll the ball around while pressing on a clean lint free cloth till dry.
Repeat the process.
