Hear me out, ha! Let's see how much can-do attitude we can muster here!
Recently acquired an old late 2006 24inch iMac - classic, gorgeous white shell style.
Naturally given it's age there's only so much that can be done with it - I got it rather cheap so am happy to use this as a sandbox-style project. But I'd LOVE to keep the exterior of this, there's just something so appealing about their classic style.
Question is - what's the credibility of gutting it of all/as many of it's components as possible and replacing them with the internals of a newer model iMac? Latest 24inch was the 2009... But perhaps the bits from a 21incher could work as it'd fit inside? I've not seen a project like this before (there's probably a reason for that!)
I'm guessing certain components wouldn't line up with ports/CD slot, but could they all be re-arranged? Are things soldered together too robustly?
I appreciate how easy it is to just say 'no' to it - I've done so a few times now! But with lockdown curiosity is getting the better of my spare time.
I put it to you fellow apple lovers, what about this could/couldn't work? Cheers!
