Hi All,

Please help me with this little pickle...

FYI; I have MBP, AEBS + 2 HDDS and I'm considering an ATV.

I want to move my lossless music from my MBP (it sounds garbage on there anyway (unless I connect it to my HT set-up)) to an Apple TV, perfect. But how do I then back up the ATV?

Am I thinking about this logically? Is there another way to move my lossless music off the MBP have the ATV play it/stream it and still have a back-up??

Unrelated question, is a DAC worth it?

Thanks in advance.

The AppleTV isn't designed to let you store music or videos on it in place of storing them on your computer HD. Though there are workarounds that make this possible, the ATV is just a way to enjoy media stored on your computer using your home theater, regardless of whether you sync or stream.

In other words, there's no need to back up the ATV because the material is also stored on your computer.

Thanks. I have owned 4 or 5 ATV's before, but I had an iMac back then and leaving the computer on 24/7 wasn't an issue. But now I have a MBP, it's a bit more tricky.

I suppose I could my iTunes library on the HDD attached to the AEBS, but then Time Machine wouldn't be able to back it up.

Frustrating!!

Backup ATV and DAC

Regarding backup, if your ATV is "syncyng" then the content will remain in your pc's HD. In fact my iTunes is turned off while I play music from the ATV. Now you could backup your HD into another device like a Western Digitam myBook and in that case you'll endup with three locations for your music files.

Regarding a DAC, it is well worth it if you enjoy hi fidelity' opennes and imaging.
