I have been using a macbook air for a while as my macbook failed.
I have repaired the macbook and wish to use it again.

I need to move settings and such.
I need move:

Thunderbird
Safari
Chrome
Firefox

Need settings and saved passwords/bookmarks etc from this machine to another.
Think I worked out Firefox with sync
Safari does not seem sync with my icloud for some reason so need manual move data.

I do not want use full time machine as more data in home folder of the macbook (plus macbook has user data on a 2nd HDD in optical bay) than the air and not want overwrite it.

You'll find your data in the User's Library.

Chrome and Firefox settings are in ~/Library/Application Support
Safari is out at root of ~/Library
Not sure about Thunderbird. Don't use it, but it should be in one of those locations.
Chrome will sync if you sign in.

Thunderbird is a snap. Everything you need is in one folder, ~/Library/Thunderbird. On the new machine, install TB and run it once. You can escape out of the "create an account" box and it will quit. This creates the above referenced folder on the new machine, with just the basics inside. Then just copy the contents of the folder over from your backup or saved folder to the newly created folder, overwriting anything you get prompted to.

The user/Library folder (~/Library) is hidden by default.
You can easily get into that correct Library folder by going to the Finder, then click on the Go menu. Press your Option key, and you will see the link to the correct Library folder appear in the middle of that Go menu.
And, from that Library folder, you will see your Safari folder. :)

Even better, in the long term, when you have Finder highlighted to your home User folder, open View options (CMD-J), and check the box to make your home Library folder "unhidden".
