Movie Burning Software

I have the P90x and Insanity DVDs, and yes for those of you who have a holier than thou countenance I bought the DVDs. I would like to burn the DVDs to have backups. Being that they were not cheap I want to use the burned DVDs and keep the originals locked away safe.

I am wondering what program I could use to burn the DVDs that would allow me to keep or make menus. Some of the videos are only 4 minutes long and others are near 80 minutes long so I would like to possibly put more than 1 video on each disk. No need to have 15 separate discs when some only have 4 or 20 minutes on each disc. I am hoping for something free and would think that possibly iMovie or iDVD could do the trick, but I haven't found out how to do it in either program.

You can use handbrake to rip the movies and then iMovie to make a DVD with menus.

I did rip them all with handbrake. Trying to figure out how to use iMovie to put more than one of them on a disc and add the menus. I guess I need to find me a tutorial video somewhere haha.

iDVD would definitely a good route to go, imo. You should be able to just use "create a new project" to get started, selecting a theme and whatnot. From there, you'll have to navigate to the folder your movies are in and can just drag and drop them into the main menu. When iDVD burns the disc, I think it will save each movie as its own title, so I'm not sure if you can get back-to-back playback using the software. You can play with the encoding settings in Project>Project info, and change between encoding presets. Sometimes you can squeeze more content onto a disc if you change the encoding settings.

However, I'd even avoid that and just make a straight copy of the DVDs, depending on their filesizes. I think the DVDs you mentioned would probably be on SL discs, so you should be able to rip the entire disc using a program like Ripit, MacTheRipper (the older one), or any of the others and use the built-in burner found in finder to burn the resulting folders onto another DVD. This method skips the time consuming rendering that you'd encounter when using iDVD, and makes an exact copy of the disc, too.

i ripped them all a week ago or so using MakeMKV and re-encoded them with HandBrake for my AppleTVs, but I needed to put them on DVDs to use in the little gym area my girl friend setup in the garage. When i tried dragging the videos over from Finder into iMovie it wasn't accepting them. I think I ended up figuring it out. I haven't tried to burn any of them to discs yet to see, but I've done a few projects combining the DVDs and doing transistions between them and whatnot.

Handbrake + iMovie + iDVD definitely does the trick absolutely wonderfully. Under threat of being cut off from my girlfriend I figured out how to do the chapters and transitions through iMovie and then set up the chapter screen breakdown in iDVD. Was actually much easier than I thought it would be.
