I'm new to Apple TV and have been converting alot of my dvd's for the Apple TV. One thing I would like to be able to do for my files is to either download/update the tag's for the movies so they show up more properly on the Apple TV. I've searched Macrumors and Google, and am only finding a lot of highly recommended software for Mac's (MetaX, iDentify, Subler). I downloaded the trial for MetaX and I must say, I felt it was dissapointing. I am looking for a program that comes highly recommended and works well with Windows 7. Any help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I've looked for the same thing and MetaX looks like the only Windows solution. I'm not sure why there are so many Mac options and so few Windows options. Anyway, I actually really like the Windows version of MetaX. It isn't fully automated, but I like that because it allows you to pick and choose the data you want from each source.
Seeing as how I keep running into a brick wall, I guess I will try MetaX again. I tried to find and download the tag details from the web but could not ever get the details to pop up. Maybe it was an issue on how the file itself was labeled. My main 'wish' was to have the movie files display on the apple tv dashboard like it does for some of the dl'd/bought content. Like I said, i'm new to this and maybe i'm making it more difficult that what it really should be...

If all you want to add is basic metadata and cover art, you can do that through iTunes. Just right click on the file in iTunes and select Get Info. MetaX makes that process easier by automatically populating data from web sources and it allows you to add some items that you can't in iTunes. But if all you want to do is put the correct movie name and cover art in, then you might want to just do it in iTunes.
Two things to remember with MetaX.... make sure you look under the options and choose the databases you want to query. Also, when you are finished tagging a file, make SURE you click the big red check mark at the top. That fills in the checkbox beside each field. If you forget this, the info will not write to the file and show up in iTunes.
A small tip also.... if you click on one tag choice and it does not give you all the info you want, click the checkbox beside the ones you want to keep and try another tag. Sometimes they will fill in other fields. Also, if the text in the description boxes is blue, make sure you delete some of it until it turns black again, otherwise it will not show up in itunes (due to the max character limit in iTunes)

Well worth the $10. The programmer tried letting folkks pay by donation, but that was clearly not working. He really had no choice. People expect "free" way to much these days, not taking into account the time involved in designing and improving an app. I see the problem that so many are growing up in the "free" and ".99 cents" app age, that it is expected. When I built my first computer in 1984, an app like this would have been in the $40 to $50 range, easily.
I had no problem in paying the $10, as I felt it was well worth it. Support the programmer.
