Ok...just blowing steam...

I love watching movies. And I love the apple TV. And Im pedantic on getting the metadata right in them.

So...feel like watching a comedy? a sci fi or fantasy? drama? orrrrrrr......you can be surprised by seeing a brand new genre appear on the atv called INDIE!!!

WTF is INDIE???? (I actually know what it is from my kids and their music) but I mean...what do you say to friends? I feel like watching an indie? Lets skip the latest science fiction....Ive got this new indie!!!!

C'monnnnnn.....is this for real? What next? An Emo?

Hell...at early school we bought a pack of coloured pencils with 12 colours!!!! And they all had colour names. or variations of colours. Light Green vs Dark Green. NOT lime. Not peach! Not tangerine! Burgundys' a wine...not a colour!

FFS!!! INDIE????? REALLY?

I swear...we make life harder for ourselves simply because someone, somewhere, is trying to justify their own existence!

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Okay....I feel better now!

Back to the movie!.....nothing I like more then a great INDIE!!!!!!!

Indie = independent

I get where you´re coming from but actually, you are defining the word INDIE wrong. It does not mean the way the characters in the movie dress or act as much as representing the word INDEPENDENT. They are traditionally supposed to be small time movie companies; Sundance film festival kind of movies.

I get that...but does that mean we now go watch a Warner Brothers? A Sony? Heyyyy...lets watch a Universal!!!! Get the popcorn!

At least you can see my point that INDIE is not a genre. BTW, the movie in question was The Crow starring Brandon Lee.

I agree that "Indie" is not a proper genre. It doesn't tell you anything about the film itself, only about how it was made, financed, distributed, etc. I have the same issue with music: "Indie" doesn't tell me anything about the music itself, just that the artist is not with a major label.

Whenever I add something to iTunes, I check the genre and, if necessary, change it.

Here ya go, OP:

You got any porn on your ATV? Sounds lie you may need a little release.

OP: Why are you not calling them 'motion pictures' then? Ah these kids today with their 'movies'...shortening everything! ;)

It's not based on the studio, so your joking of watching a "Universal" doesn't work.

An 'indie' film is generally one produced by a small-scale studio with limited budget and is more often than not, is a film that revolves around interpersonal relations between charaters...generally a love story or a feel-good flick or a buddy-flick. At least that what comes to my mind when I think of an indie flick.

'Indies' that fit into other categories would generally end up in those categories, like a sci-fi flick that may come out from an indie studio is likely to be grouped with other sci-fi movies.

OP: Does the category "foreign film" upset you too?

Some good points....but category does not bother me. Just the idea that who/how the movie was made is starting to become a 'genre'. A low budget or independently made 'science fiction' movie is still a 'science fiction'.

A 'foreign film' is usually a film made in a non english speaking country. But it is still a 'romance', or a 'drama' or 'action' film. Or a combination of such like. Where and how it was made is irrelevant to 'genre'.

ROFL
:( Kinda difficult to have that on the ATV and 'show off' the system to family and friends. Especially when they bring their kids over.

Not at all.

Select a blank frame as the "poster" to display on the screen in its place, and add a parental code to movies above a certain rating. Works like a champ.

(or so I've heard )

man, are you old...

Interesting idea. Will look into it.

Oh, and don't forget to change the name of the movie - you can hide the real movie name in the metadata somewhere. You don't want Junior to go scrolling through a list of blank movies named things like "Bubble-Rumped Babes #14."

man, are you old...

Yes. Unfortunately all this new technologies wasted on the young. Or at least anyone younger then me!!

exception: those people who make handbrake perform its wonders. To them I bow low to the ground and murmur..."we are not worthy."

ohh...and yeah...the people at Apple!!!

oh, hell....yes....Im old!! :(

I can't believe you own that. It was a blatant rip off of #9 and copied plot points from #3 and #12. You obviously don't have very discriminating tastes in movies. :D

Indie is something that doesn't belong to any other genre. I guess documentary kind of films
