Hi

I'm hopefully getting my apple tv today or tomorrow. I have a question about rental content.

If I want to rent a movie, I can rent it on the apple tv and it's only viewable on the apple tv correct?

If I rent the movie in my PC iTunes, is it viewable only on the PC or also the apple tv?

Thanks!

correct, if you rent on atv you can only watch on atv. if you rent in itunes you can watch on itunes, atv, iphone, ...

I was under the impression that you could not rent directly from the new ATV. I thought you had to rent from iTunes on your computer and then stream to the ATV

No. You can no longer "buy" on the new ATV2. Everything is rent now. You can buy however from iTunes on your Mac or PC and stream it to the new ATV2. Still not sure if that's a move forward or backwards from my original ATV but it is what it is. Cheers!

But can you rent on iTunes on the PC and view it on the AppleTV?

Yes. Also if you rent on one Apple TV, you are able to watch it on any of the other Apple TVs that you own. That's pretty cool for renting a movie in the family room and then finishing it off in the bedroom.

I didn't realize that last point (you can rent on one atv and finish watching on another atv), never noticed it in any write ups. That is great news. I only watch rentals on the atv anyway, being able to switch rooms without worrying about where i originally rented it is great. have to give it a try.

Thanks,
peter

Only thing that kinda sucks right now though is that if you rent it through ATV it is rented in HD and you can't transfer to other iOS device for portability. And if you rent through iTunes it only gives option to rent in SD.

So let me get this right in my brain lol

If I rent it on the PC, using iTunes, I can access the rental on my apple tv, ipad or iphone

If I rent it on the apple tv, I can only access the rental on my apple tv.

Yup for now. Hopefully they change it. And what sucks is if you rent it through iTunes its not in HD.
