Is there a jailbreak that lets you stream movies that you have downloaded on your computer to your iphone over wifi or better yet over 3g? I have a ton of movies on my computer and if I could stream them while at work that would be so friggin awesome.

Yea, i'd like to know if its possible to convert the movie file or use an app that reads movie (cydia or app store).

How do you guys download/watch movies on your iphones? (steps and programs/apps that your using)

There is an app that does exactly that called Orb. Streams movies, music, etc. from your home computer as long as your computer is up and running and you have Orb running on your PC. There is a Lite version of Orb that you can download from the App store for free just to check to make sure it works. By the way, this is all Apple certified, no jailbreak needed.

But to answer your question. I use HandBrake on my PC. It is a free file conversion program. You select a video file on your computer and tell it to put it in iPhone format and it converts it for you. Then just drag it into iTunes and your good to go.

Just downloaded Handbrake to test it out. Does one use the "normal" mode or the iPhone mode for presets? Or does it even matter??

Thanks!

use 'original'. that will convert it to work in itunes, apple tv, ipod, iphone, etc.

Actually I believe you have to use iPhone mode if you want to play it on your iphone. The other mode plays fine in itunes, but when you try to play it on your iphone it wont work.

I use ooTunes and purchased his ooTunes server. It allows me to stream all my movies and TVshows to my iPhone from my iTunes on my laptop. You must be using WiFi though for it to work.

i meant 'Universal' (there is no original in handbrake). but yes, it does play on all devices. ripping a movie in more than one format (ie ATV, ipod, iphone, etc) would be absolutely retarded and pointless.

Exactly what i was looking for, thanks!
i'll try it this weekend, everyone else tried this program before or an other one?

Just a FYI, if you use 3G unrestrictor with orb and move the bar to wifi under settings the quality is awesome.
