So I have an Apple TV and a lot of content I like to watch is in .avi format.

I have successfully used Movie2iTunes to get the files into iTunes and play them etc.

Now when I stream my content to the Apple TV I only see files that are in the .mp4 format and none that are in the .avi format.

I am able to play the file if I transfer it directly to the Apple TV as I have installed perian.

Is this something I should expect to work or am I SOL for being able to do it this way?

The AppleTV cannot play all the formats iTunes can, and is unable to utilize the functions of Perian or VLC (however wonderful they are.) You'll need to convert the video to MP4 for it to work with :apple:TV.
