Movies on iPad with Handbrake

To watch movies on your iPad, do you need to do anything special for them to look good? I use the normal Apple TV preset. Can I just use that and sync my movies to it?

Make sure to use the widescreen version of the movie and not full screen. When i had my ipad i remember full screen always seemed to not look as good. And i also used the apple tv presets as you do.

I had a bunch of movies converted using th Apple TV preset, but they wouldn't load onto my iPad. I re-encoded them with the Universal preset and now my movies work on all my iDevices, including my iPad.

I can't stand these people saying "why convert? Just use Air!" what the heck use is that if your at work,on a train/plane or on the beach?!

There was an article on Lifehacker specifically for iPad presets in both SD and HD for Handbrake. I use them myself and movies look great on the iPad!

It is called, "Air Video" and with a minor tweak to your home network you can access the media on your Mac from anywhere in the world. (provided that your network connection on the remote end doesn't filter certain data streams... which happens when using free wifi hotspots in malls and the like).

But I agree, it is more convenient to have the videos locally stored on the iPad when traveling.

Air Video is great. When you are around the house or at a hotel with free wifi, you can just stream the movies without any converting. But you can also use it instead of Handbrake to convert movies to sync into itunes. Simply start the offline conversion from the ipad, and when they are done go to your computer and drag the converted files into itunes and sync. Easy!

When you need high quality, covert by handbrake with a right profile is a must. If you like what I did, I use media browser app with tversity, so my PS3 and iPad share same medias I have on my windows server.
