Hey, I'm new.

I am wondering if there is a way to get an application that I have installed on the iMac I have at my office, installed onto the iMac I have at my home office. I own both Macs but I cannot find the DMG file or my serial number so I am at a stand still.

Any suggestions would be nice.

Thank you

Can you tell us which application?

Did you purchase the app through your App Store, and use that to install?

If you purchased it under your AppleID, and you have the same AppleID on both your office, and your home Mac, then you should be able to install that on your other Mac by searching for that app in your App Store. Click on install.

If, on the other hand, you purchased it using the AppleID on your office Mac (and your home Mac AppleID is different), then you will need to purchase again to use on your home Mac.

Go the developer's web site, download and install the app. If you need the serial number, ask the developer for help. They may have a record of your serial number.

The App is Sketchup. I've contacted them but they have no record of me (or anyone of my emails) buying the app.

SketchUp has changed hands several times. The original application was created by a company called Last Software which was subsequently acquired by Google. Google continued to develop SketchUp both a free basic application and a more powerful Pro payware version (all ran natively on OS X and Windows). Eventually, Google sold off SketchUp to Trimble.

At some point, Trimble renamed the basic (free) version as SketchUp Make and continued the payware SketchUp Pro. Make had a 30-day trial of Pro's features so it was basically a time-bombed demo version. At the end of the trial period, users were prompted whether or not they wanted to pay for Pro or continue using Make free of charge minus some of the Pro features.

Trimble discontinued Make and replaced it with SketchUp Free which is a web browser based application, not software to download.

My guess is that you have a copy of the now discontinued freemium SketchUp Make on your work Mac.

You could try just copying the app from your work computer to an external drive (like a USB thumb drive formatted as HFS+), then sneakernet it to your home Mac and see if it works.
