These days if I try to move my apps around on the home screen, the process of moving from one screen to another changes the order of EVERYTHING. Because when you are moving apps around, it's quite sensitive, and you will tend to fly through a few home screens, it leaves a path of destruction.

I'm pretty sure in the previous iOS versions, icons would spring back to their original position if you didn't end up leaving the new app on that home screen. Now it seems that every move of the app will cause everything else to move out of the way and change order.

Is there a way to move apps around, without messing with the order of all the other apps?

Apps will only move if the app you moved is dropped before other apps. If you want to keep the same order you have to move the app that is currently holding the spot where the new app is dropped.

This process is so cumbersome that I just leave apps I no longer use in their current spot because one wrong move and it throws them all out of wack, you used to be able at least use iTunes which gave you far more control but they've removed that now too. Apple needs to address this.

Yeah I really liked re-ordering via iTunes. I avoid doing it on the phone sometimes because it's painful. I will often having it end up creating a folder I don't want or have trouble "dropping" the app in the right place. One neat trick I learned is when you hold one app and it starts to wiggle you can use another finger to select more apps. So you can move them all at once.

Are you sayin that if you are moving an app across a few screens and then decide not to move it there after all and move it elsewhere or just back to where it was it still moves things around on other screens?

Frankly, I have a hard time moving any of them without disrupting the others. Even if moving and then moving back, they bump out of order and it's nearly impossible to get it on the right or left column without accidentally swiping into the other page and then throwing all of those out of sorts as well.

Can't do via iTunes anymore and I liked doing it that way. I have apps on my phone that I don't use and won't but moving is such a pain and my mind remembers where each app is and don't like that type of change. I hope they bring an IOS app application to MACOS which will allow easier moves.

The worst is trying to move something inside a folder in the bottom right corner. It always ends up moving the folder to a different page and the App you tried to get INSIDE the folder in its position instead. Been driving me nuts ever since we were able to move apps.

Yes!! In a similar situation I was trying to move an app from another page to be the final app on the first page. It kept trying to create a folder.

I’ve been noticing odd behavior with this recently. I used to be able to move an app I just downloaded to the first page and everything would still be in the order I had it in, but now it jumbles up everything on the second page for some reason.

I still use the version of iTunes that still contains the App store (12.6.3.6) which still allows App management, reordering and syncing.

Me too. And for This reason alone I don’t want to upgrade to Mojave any time soon.
