Moving folders

I had a question regarding what happens when you move a folder (by dragging it and holding down Command): are the files deleted from the source one by one as they are copied or are all of them deleted together (along with the folder) once everything is copied? What about when you're moving more than one folder?

To clarify, dragging while holding down Command will Copy the folder and its contents, if you are dragging to another location on the same drive. Nothing is deleted until you highlight it and click Move to Trash. It's a two step process.
