I need some guidance. I currently have a 3G that is jailbroken and unlocked. I picked up a 3GS on eBay with the old bootrom and running 3.1.2. When I get this phone, what is the proper way to switch from my 3G to my 3GS without losing the 3.1.2 on the S? Do I simply restore the 3GS from my 3G backup through iTunes then jailbreak and unlock?

I have found the proper info for prepping my 3G to sell in its jailbroken form by searching so I am good there.

Any help here is appreciated. I searched for a while here and couldn't find anything specific about switching phones with one being jailbroken.

Do NOT restore a 3GS with 3G data.

You can sync contacts, bookmarks, photos, music and calendar through iTunes but game progress and settings must be lost.

I also don't recommend it. Lots of people have problems (Mainly battery ones) when they sync the settings from 1 device to a different one.

I just recommend you set it up as new and like ntrigue said, you can get the contacts, music, app, etc back easily.

They make look the same but they are entirely different devices and hardware. Unless you have files that will have you lose your job or marriage you should do a clean install.
