Hello. I was wondering, would it be worth the cost to get a 24" 2.4ghz imac?
I currently have a mbp 2.16ghz 2gb ram (one of which i would move to the imac to total 2gb in teh imac). when using imaging applications such as photoshop, capture nx, and aperture (w/ huge raw files), would i be able to expect significant improvements in performance with the imac over the mbp? or would it be minimal? should i just save the money and stick it out with my mbp?

Thank you in advance.

The difference between 2.4 GHz and 2.16 GHz is quite small.

Now if your MBP only has a single core cpu that is a different story. But if it's dual core like the iMacs the gain in speed will not be that noticable.

What will help with intensive programs using large .RAW files will be the upgrade in RAM. So an upgrade to 3Gb or 4Gb will be what will make the difference in your situation. Ii would tell you to get 800 MHz RAM but since that's not an option......

So if you cant upgrade your MBP to atleast 3Gb of RAM I'd say get the iMac and buy third party RAM to go with it. :)

Santa Rosa can use 4gb of ram.

Current iMac and MPB are Santa Rosa.
Your current MBP is non-Santa Rosa, and max ram is 3gb.

iMac uses desktop drives which are faster than laptop drives, however it's not as portable as MBP.
