I have Macs on Snow Leopard and iOS devices that meet iCloud requirements.

Apple support tell me that I can move to iCloud (and all iCloud services will work on IOS devices) and then manually enter iCloud email settings in my Snow Leopard Macs (which will only get the iCloud email service).

Thy refereed me to these instructions: http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmail.html

They essentially say delete the MobileMe mail account and enter iCloud settings. My question is: will I lose all my MobileMe emails stored on my Macs?

I did it. And so far as I can tell all the mail was deleted locally from the Macs then redownloaded from iCloud. One Mac put them back in the same folder in ~/Library/Mail and one Mac made a new folder (no idea why they reacted in different ways).

And Time Machine backup all the Mail again from scratch.

moved, but didn't need to change a thing

I made the move, on a different laptop. When I opened my SL laptop, the me.com mail account was working fine and still does? Is this just the carry over period?
