Moving from O2 > Orange UK

Hi

I have a Pay and Go O2 iPhone 3GS and have requested the official unlock.

I'm thinking of moving to Orange UK as the reception on O2 is horrendous, I will most probably go with the SIM only plan with Orange.

I assume it will work okay?

One warning, I've heard that orange only give you a 2g sim on contract sim only plans, for some stupid reason.
 
i get what you are saying about the reception, but honestly ORANGE ????
i know loads of people who did that and wen back to O2. their customer service is shocking !!!

nothing wrong with Orange CS, I rung them for a replacement sim went through a few troubleshooting things with the sim/iphone (bought second hand recently unlocked by O2) and mentioned I tried different network sims and had better signal so without any hassle I am getting a replacement sim.

I did however once the other week get though to their indian out of hours team... bit of language problem but again no issues at all with the CS on a whole, I even rung them about the fact I was being made redundant end of last year and they took me through my options and made sure I understood everything they were telling me.

couldn't nock them on anything from my few recent experiences in last few months.

Really? I know a fair amount of people doing the exact opposite. I've been with orange for 3 years now and am halfway through a 2 year contract. I've never had a single problem they haven't been able to solve efficiently. I rate orange above all the other networks I've used. And that is a fair few, (O2, Vodafone, 3, Virgin and Orange)
 
I'm seriously considering moving to Voda when my contract expires with O2. The network is getting so flakey, the customer service is average and they appear to be unwilling to offer customers any kind of loyalty packages anymore.


I hope the OP has a smooth transition to Orange.
 
go sim only with 3 mobile far better network than orange and dont limit what you can use the data for and give you more data to start with.
 
New SIM Only deals

Orange UK are releasing new more favourable SIM only packages for the iPhone on Monday - they're now more in line with the other networks (i.e. you used to need to spend at least £30 to get mobile internet, whereas from you can get unlimited internet for a lot less)

The best customer service in the world mean nothing when you STILL do not have 3G any where near your area (or even EDGE I have to use GPRS!) and no indication when it might come to your area despite repeated asking CS and technical support. :mad::mad:

Orange has 3G in my area as does Three. I WILL be switching at the end of my contract.
 
Orange reception at my house and work is far superior than O2

I'm still waiting for O2 to unlock my iPhone, they're taking their sweet time.

With regards to Orange not supplying 3G SIM's unless a handset is purchased is true in some cases. I was lucky and have been sent a 3G SIM when signing up for the SIM only plan.

If you do end up in a situation where they won't supply a 3G SIM, simply buy a 3G pay as you go and ensuring your 2G SIM is not placed in a phone report it broken and that you have a another SIM ready to go, they simply do the necessary.
 
Thought I would update this thread, moved to Orange after waiting 12 days for O2 to unlock the iPhone. Reception is far better, full 3G whereas before I was lucky to get a few bars on GPRS 2G.
 
Yeah noticed a decline in O2's customer service..but hoping now other phone companies have jumped on the iphone bandwagon and they no longer have monopoly on the darn thing, they might sit up and think about the crummy service they are offering...

yay to perfect competition....almost :)

I did exactly this went from O2 to Orange and they gave me a 2G sim card !! I went back and they refused to change it to 3g - even after i said I would leave the contract (1 month contract). I had to go to another Orange shop before I could get the right sim card.

I was lucky, called the sales line and told the chap that I needed a 3G SIM as I'm going to use it for my iPhone. Signed up for the monthly SIM only deal. They sent be a 3G SIM, quite surprised!
 
Another report here of only getting a 2G SIM for PAYG. O2 coverage where I live non-existent, so ordered PAYG SIMs from all the other networks to check coverage. Voda, T-Mobile and (obviously) Three all sent 3G SIMs, Orange sent a 2G. Went into two Orange stores and were told they couldn't supply a 3G PAYG SIM.

Signed up for Vodafone - couldn't be bothered jumping through hoops as a prospective customer. Explained to Orange that I would sign up on contract if coverage was good enough, but was told that PAYG was strictly 2G only. Evidently others here managed to get one in the end, but I felt that I if I had such problems as a new customer, I didn't want to do business with them.

Very happy with Vodafone on the £20 30-day notice contract.

This was at the beginning of the year, maybe they have relaxed their policy by now.
