moving from T-Mobile to AT&T

hey guys,

sorry if this is posted in the wrong area. I'm hoping someone else has gone through this and can give me some advice! I'm currently with T-Mobile, and my contract ends in March. I want to cancel my contract with T-Mobile and switch my number to AT&T after paying the $200 cancellation fee to T-Mobile. however, how does this guarantee that I will be able to have the same number once I go to AT&T? I've tried googling various things and even looking at AT&T's website, but it just asks me to go through a series of steps to check and see if my number is available to be ported over. I'm pretty sure it isn't considering the fact that my contract is not up.

I'm just looking for the easiest and fastest solution at this point. I don't want a new number because I've had this one for years/use it for so many different things. I'm not necessarily in a rush, but I don't want to wait until March.

I would go to an AT&T store as this deals with their systems and not the iPhone itself.

Just a guess here, but I would think you need to go to the AT&T store, buy an iPhone and port your number over. T-Mobile will have gotten the request and will add the $200 ETF to your last bill.

This is just a guess but I would call T-Mobile and AT&T for the best and most accurate information.

I'd love it if it were that easy, but I didn't think I'd just be able to go into AT&T and cancel my T-Mobile contract through them. sounds like it could work, though. thanks for the suggestion!

I have spoken to T-Mobile, and they only mentioned having to pay the $200 cancellation fee. I'll probably speak to AT&T later today. just wanted to see if anyone else has gone through this specific problem recently.

It was that easy for me. In 2006 I walked into an AT&T store, ported my number over to them from Sprint and all I did was pay my last bill at Sprint afterwards. No ETF tho as my contract was up. All AT&T did was port my Sprint number over for me and start my contract with them.

sweet! I'll go by AT&T and talk about this with them. my T-Mobile line is in a family plan. I'm hoping that doesn't change anything/make it more difficult.

I just switched 5 lines from T-Mobile over to AT&T. I was with T-Mobile for 7 years. I wasn't looking to port any numbers since I was more concerned with paying the ETF fee ($200) on 2 of the 5 lines. But intiating the change from AT&T's side is the way to go. At least that is what AT&T told me in the store.

Ya it would be nice to have the same phone numbers but everyone will get to learn the new one and there are some people I don't want to have the new number . I did get out of the ETF . If you've been there a while or have issues with them there are ways to do this. I could of probably got my number ported over too but was glad to save $400.

I'm on the 700 family plan with AT&T but be prepared to get sticker shock. Though I love the iphone the $30 data plan is a bit steep and their family text plan i believe is $10 more a month than T-mobile.

One good point is that even though I went down from a 1000 family plan to a 700 the minutes are roll over in the AT&T plan. These plans cost me the same of each provider.
