Moving from Verizon (Storm) to AT&T (iPhone 3GS)

Hey guys I have a few questions for you guys. I currently have a plan with Verizon (signed a 2 year in Jan 2009) and I cannot stand my Storm. I am in a family plan right now and i'm going to post the $150 early termination fee to get out of the contract. My question to you guys is how I should go about switching. Should I go to AT&T 1st to transfer my number and see if I can even pass the credit check (have no idea what my credit score is, all I pay for is a car payment) before I cancel with Verizon? I want the iPhone because it rules lol and now that it has copy and paste its a true smart phone. Also I have Mac's so it would be nice to be able to sync. Let me know what you guys think. :apple: 4 life

Go to AT&T, get a number. Sign up and everything.
Then, call AT&T up and tell them you want to port a number. This means you transfer your number from another carrier.
AT&T will call Verizon up and handle the number transfering.
After your number is transfered, you can call Verizon up and tell them that you want to cancel.
Pay the fee, and you're good to go.

so i can transfer my number to my iPhone before i cancel Verizon huh?
 
all on you v got better service then att iPhone is the better phone but who knows it might go the the verizon if you fell like waiting the storm is a pain but there is a new phone coming out next week called the tour which is better but no touch screen and it should cost you about the same or less in the whole deal of switching over because you have to pay the 150 efe plus the price of the phone you want 200 or 300 I guess this is more of a personal choice if the only problem you have with verizon is the phone just switch the phone unless you just really want the iPhone which like i said could be going to verizon sooner or later

well i will keep the iphone 3gs for my 2 year contract and if the iphone is on Verizon, i'll go back.

I believe so. At least that was the case with Virgin Mobile and T-Mobile.

It might, but we'll see.
The 3G S came out. It's a great phone, I would suggest getting it.
It's only if you have enough money though. Considering he's willing to pay the ETF, I believe he's "rich enough" to get the iPhone, while canceling his Verizon plan.

well i sold my ipod touch 32gb on ebay in 53 mins lol so that more than covered for the ETF :)

You don't go to AT&T and get a number.
You go to an AT&T store and tell them you want to port your current number from Verizon to AT&T. You choose a phone and they take care of everything right there for you.
This is exactly what I did when I got my iPhone 3G last year. I switched from an LG Voyager to the iPhone.

You'll get a final bill from Verizon, it will show a credit from the portion of the month that you have paid for, but not used, then it will add the ETF onto that.

so you are saying...i'm half way thru my month right now that they will subtract the partial month from the ETF on the bill? So it will be less than $175

Yes, since you're paying the month in advance, you should receive a credit for what you have not used. More than likely though, you'll receive the normal bill before the early termination bill. Hang onto the normal bill for a couple of weeks, since it shouldn't be due for a while.

ok another question... I have heard rumors that if you buy the iPhone from apple.com and start a new account from apple's site there is no credit check, where as if you go to AT&T they run a credit check before selling the phone....true?
 
All you have to do is take a Verizon bill to ATT, and tell them you want to port over your number. It should take less than an hour to port over your number from Verizon. Afterwards, your final bill from Verizon will be for your cell service, plus the early termination fee, minus $5 for every month you already used in your new contract. Just make sure that if you are in a family plan with Verizon, you are not the primary account. The reason I say this is because if you port out, and your number is the family plans primary number, the other phones will be charged a per minute rate.

Example of the family plan:

$69.99 for 2 lines

line one is billed at $60
line two is billed at $9.99


Make sure your line is one of the $9.99 ones. If not, then some switching will have to be made once you port over to ATT, which shouldnt be an issue. Just call Verizon after and tell them what you did, and you need one of the shared line to be backdated to the primary family share number.
