Its about time I move to macOS, my main go-to machine is Win10 with Debian vmbox image to do stuff Windows cant.
Before I move I need my expectations to be met.
What can I not do nativly on macOS
I have never run macOS before but I know Linux quite well.
Is there a site that lists stuff that still cant be done without a vm inside the OS?
Can I run things like powershell? Does it work well?
Cheers

A lot of what you can do in linux you can do on Mac, and with Macports, I have yet to run into anything I could do on linux command line that I can't on a Mac. Powershell is a windows thing. Besides that it entirely depends on what you want to do with your system. You'll have to find alternatives for some of the apps you use but that doesn't mean you can't do the things those apps did any more. Really what are we talking here? apps? system functions? APIs? your favorite widget?

I’m also a recent convert. I was a heavy windows user and very capable of doing just about anything technical, hardware or software related to windows.

Your question is kind of broad, but I can tell you that MacOS is far superior and getting stuff done is a fairly seamless transition. You will have to get up to speed on some power user stuff but it’s all google able.

Thanks, I have been googling around and it seems running powershell connection to Azure works, MSoft has strange requirements with modern/forms based auth, just wondering if anyone had experience with this.
I am going to bit the bullet....
Going for Gen7 13" Macbook Pro 256G 16G no touchbar ... should see me through for a few years?

I just left the Apple store and was playing with that. It's fast. It will last, glad to see you went with 16GB of memory. More important for future demands than storage. I am also thinking about upgrading and really taking my time. I think I am going to go with the 15" though. Coming from where I am (see sig) I think it might be smaller (form factor) and of course slimmer and lighter. I don't really care about the Touch Bar, but it's included in all 15's. I am thinking i7 Quad Core, 16GB, 256 or 512GB.

Also, as a Linux guy, it is possible to run WINE on macOS. I’ve only done this to run early 2000s games, but might be useful for you. Also if you’re pretty savvy you can look into hackintosh laptops. They’re not as beautiful and problem free, but can be more bang for the buck I suppose. Real downside is how much better apples trackpad is. I’ve used a work laptop dell precision 7510 on Sierra. I would not recommend that model though.
