Moving iPhone pics to iMac?

How do I move the photos Ive taken on my iPhone (3Gs) to my iMac?
Do I use iTunes?
Thanks in advance
 
Image Capture (included with OS X) is my preference, since I don't use iPhoto.
 
Didnt work

I connected my iPhone to my iMac, opened iPhoto...no prompt to import pictures from my iPhone to iPhoto.
 
Finder question?

Im a fairly new Apple user, so please bear with me if this question is naive.
Im under the impression that FINDER is the Apple version of File Manager of PC fame.
OK, so I attach my iPhone to my iMac, it recognizes it through iTunes, great. However, when I open Finder, I see no iPhone. Why not? Shouldn't my Apple File Manager show all peripheral storage devices attached to my iMac?
This issue has come to my attention because I'm trying to find a way to move my iPhone photos TO my iMac. iPhoto isn't promting me to import the photos on my iPhone, iTunes doesn't help either. So I assumed that Finder would show my iPhone, and I would be able to move the photos on it, to my iMac...drag n drop. But no iPhone shows up.
Any suggestions?
 
The iPhone and the iPod touch are not storage devices thus they don't show in Finder.

MRoolge will help you find plenty of threads on how to copy your photos from the phone to iPhoto.

Btw, have you checked iPhoto's preferences?
 
The iPods and iPhones can't be treated like a storage device. They can only be managed through applications like iPhoto and iTunes.

The only photos that can be transferred by iPhoto are images taken with the iPhone camera or saved to your iPhone by other means. Basically anything in your "Camera Roll."

There is an Application that can access your iPhone's data, but you will have to use the trial version if you don't want to spend $30. It's called iPod Access, the latest is version 4.4.1.

OK, I assumed that since photos, music, etc were stored on my iPhone, that is was a storage divise. That said, I thought that Finder would still show it. I guess not. However, speaking of iPhoto, I turn the program on, then attach my iPhoto to the iMac, and after a few seconds, it shows up on iPhoto under Devices for a few seconds, and then disappears! Image Capture doesn't show the iPhone either. So, I remain totally at a loss as to how to move my iPhone pictures onto my iMac.

Btw, with iPhoto, do you mean iPhone at same places in your post?

Btw 2, although the iPhone stores certain information it is not handled by the OS as a storage device like an external HDD.

Maybe it would help if you provide more information, for example what iPhone with what OS version, what iMac with what Mac OS C and iPhoto version you use, and stuff like that.

I'm cranky, should take a longer nap now.


The following is taken from the thread titled "How to maximise your MacRumors troubleshooting experience" created by mad jew in 2006. It contains more elaborate information on the short extracts I took from it and should help you in finding appropriate help. I also made some additions after finding that thread.

  1. Search for threads or guides containing similar problems.
    MRoogle is quite a good tool to search these forums.
  2. Start your thread in the appropriate forum or sub-forum.
    Here is the forum's main page with the list of all the sub-fora found here.
  3. Use a specific thread title.
    "Need help!!!!???? ASAP!!!" and its variants are not specific.
  4. Find and post machine hardware and software configurations.
    You can find out more about your Mac by going to the Menu Bar > :apple: > About This Mac > More Info ... (this button opens Applications / Utilities / System Profiler) > Hardware Overview.
  5. Tell us your problem, and be specific. What is happening to your machine?
    What Mac OS X version and what Mac do you use, ... .
  6. How long has this been happening? What changes were made just before this started?
  7. What have you already tried?
  8. Respond to all posted advice with details of what happened.
  9. Be wary of the (very) occasional bad advice.
  10. Be patient.
  11. Be courteous.

When I typed iPhone, I meant iPhone, and when I typed iPhoto, I meant iPhoto.
And I don't understand why I couln't create two threads. The first was under the "iPhone" thread because the question dealt with my iPhone, and the second was specifically dealing with iPhoto, so I placed that thread under iMac Applications. If this is somehow against the Forum Rules, you have my apology.

It is against forum rules (the one found here: Minor Problems #4) to post a thread more than once. Post a new thread in the proper forum. If the topic is relevant to more than one forum, pick the best fit or most specific forum and post it only once.

So do you want to use this thread or your first one?
