I am trying to move Mail app, and all the mailboxes, from one Mac to another.

Migration Assistant moved Mail over, but the contents of the Inbox was nothing like the original Mac.

I tried moving the Mail folder and plist pref file, but again the contents of the inbox are not the same, and the 'on my mac' mailboxes are missing.

This is really doing my nut in! Is there any way to move Mail to another Mac, which ensures the original Mail exactly in every way? I want all the on my mac mailboxes to be there, and I want the contents of the Inbox to be the same. Clearly just moving the Mail folder and Preferences file is not enough.

What am I missing? :-(

depending on wether you use POP or iMAP with your accounts as well as certain preferences you will have differences. Check the mail account settings on both machines.

I don't know why Migration Assistant wouldn't work in this scenario but it looks like your email habits have lead you to this point. You haven't broken any rules, I'm sure, but using "On My Mac" folders or POP accounts is the kind of thing that leads to this.

As Slartibart says, let us know how many and what types of email accounts you have (they will either be POP, IMAP or Exchange). Then, on the original Mac, let us know how many emails you have in you "On My Mac" folders. These things will help determine your best solution.
