Ordered the new i9 iMac, but I’ve got 6 internal drives in my MP that I will need to access with the iMac. Obviously I either need enclosures for the 4 full-sized hard drives and 2 SSDs, or one large HDD that will hold the contents of my other drives. Also losing my 1 TB TM backup drive, so will have to get one up and running for use with the iMac.

Any thoughts on the best way to switch over to the iMac? Speed between the iMac and these external drives isn’t a huge concern, although I do have the 2 SSDs (1 TB, 500GB) to repurpose.

Thanks!

You answered the question yourself, you'll need to put your old harddrives into external enclosures if you want to keep using them . There are many options .

And yes, this is not the iMac forum , or the former MP owner forum .

[doublepost=1554159778][/doublepost]If you haven't disposed of your MP, may I suggest you use it to run Windows 10? I have converted many MP 3,1s to run 64 bit Windows 10 pro in my office. It is more than fast enough to run most apps -- perversely, Microsoft did not abandon or cut off the 3,1s from running the latest OS that Windows offers while Apple has simply decided to relegate all 3,1 users to an OS that is 2 generations behind Mojave. Not only that, with something like a GTX 980, you can run most Windows games at a decent speed (love Battlefield V and Anthem).

Thanks for stopping by!

1) I am a current MP owner.
2) Many nMP owners were former cMP owners who had to figure what to do with their internal drives.
3) HDD enclosures are but one possible solution.
4) I was looking for help in choosing between the many options you referred to.

Hope that clears everything up for you.

Interesting idea! I currently have my MP running Win7 under Parallels, but I never thought of repurposing it. Thanks!

Excuse me, can you tell me if there are any posts on the forum where they explain which video cards are supported by a mac pro 3.1 2008 eight core?
for example a RX580 8 gb would be supported?
thank you
