Hello,
I might be moving out soon and I'm stressed about packing my M1 iMac. I will take the mac with me in the car so no shipping involved.
But here is the deal:

I kept the original box so I will put it in there but I found out that the 'dust cover' thing is missing. It's nowhere to be found while I thought I kept it as well. The hello sheet is gone but that fell on the floor during unboxing so dirt got on the sticky side. And now I'm worried about the screen without that dust cover thing. That it will get scratches when rubbing to the other side of the box while driving to my new home. I thought about wrapping it with bubble plastic or anything but it's thight fit in the original box so I think the bubble wrap is too thick.

Any one who has experience with moving and taking the M1 iMac? Maybe I'm over thinking things but I'm so careful with my iMac that I would be so upset when the screen gets damaged, or worse, during the move.

Hello Aigoo,

Don't stress out too much about transporting your iMac in the car. Lay it down flat in the rear seat. Cover it up with a fuzzy blanket and you're all set to go.

Just cover the display glass with something to ward off scratches but that's still thin enough to let you use that original box. Saran Wrap comes to mind. I wouild just zip a couple layers of that around the front and put it in the box.

Hello! Understandable. I have had to lug my last-gen 27" into the Apple Store a few times, and even those few times prompted me to find a carrying case made for the job. I am sorry as I don't have the name/brand handy at the moment; but it has a shoulder strap, felt lining on the inside, a handy compartment for keyboard/mouse/trackpad and bump proof material on the outside. Besides that, yes use something (clean!) to wrap the screen with and you should be ok, bring it by itself in your car, maybe even in the rear seat with the face down/protected from bumps. You should be fine, just wanted to let you know they do make some sort of carrying solution for iMacs surprisingly.

First of all, Congrats on keeping the original box! Many people don't do that.

Just using the box and putting it in the car so that it cannot topple over or get impacted by anything should be enough to insure safe transport.

If you want, put some Saran over the screen so that you feel extra secure about it.

You're thinking too much.
Just put something over the display surface, as others have suggested.

I drove a U-Haul in NYC from the Bronx to Manhattan with my 2017 iMac in the passenger seat covered with a blanket.
