Moving your Home Folder to iCloud Drive?

Hi guys,

I've just bought a terabyte of iCloud Drive space and was wondering what do do with it. Now is it possible to mover your home folder to iCloud Drive so your home folder can be synced across MULTIPLE MACS.

Has anyone done this (and possibly with any success)?

I moved to the iCloud Drive folder my entire Documents and Music folders. So far, so good. But... when I tried to do the same with my Pictures folder (some 45 GB of iPhoto library) I ended up frustrated. After several days I couldn't get past of the "Pending" message on the computer I was syncing from and the folder wouldn't appear on any other device.

I suspect it had to do with the thousands of folders and subfolders iPhoto uses. I have a fairly good connection (100 symmetrical Mbps), the source computer is a 2014 MacBookPro Retina 15" and the "bird" and "cloudd" processes were basically idle after the first 16 hours (which was, I guess, the time it took to actually sync the iPhoto library). But, somehow, it was impossible to propagate the damn folder.

Anyway, Photos app supposedly will fix that so I kinda gave up.

I certainly would NOT put my whole home folder on ANY cloud sync provider, and absolutely NOT iCloud Drive.

Reason being that many users have reported corrupted files, double-sync issues, and the like using iCD. So the idea of putting my file archive on it, is a complete no-no.

The whole "sync whole file system" idea is nowhere near baked on any provider AFAICT.

...iCD has no versioning either, BTW.

As iCloud Drive is actually a synced copy of a folder in your Library folder, you could not put your entire home folder into it (not without causing a rip in the space-time continuum).

Hyperbole aside, iCloud Drive is fairly new, and some people have experienced spotty behavior. I would recommend moving things a bit at a time. In my experience, testing a new service (whether it be iCloud Drive, DropBox, Box, etc.) by dropping 500 GB of files into it to see what happens is going to result in failure pretty much every time.

Bad idea. It's not designed for that. It's not Dropbox.
