Just thought I'd share this since it's for some reason not in the MacRumors news, even though that one about Firefox gaining the ability to read PDFs (very late) was: http://www.techspot.com/news/55641-mozilla-to-sell-advertising-in-firefox-browser.html

Basically, they might not get income from Google anymore for having Google as the default search engine, in which case they will switch to advertising. In which case I won't update it.

I'm surprised Google was paying Firefox in the first place...almost everyone uses it and those who don't would just ignore it's existence in the first place. What is Mozilla going to do if Google doesn't pay them? Switch their default search engine to Bing? Big deal, most people will switch it back.

On a side note: People still use Firefox?

Advertising in my FireFox!? The day that happens is the day I finally look for a new browser. I've been using FireFox since the first version was released and it would be a shame for them to lose my custom. As it stands it is still my favourite browser.

Maybe they can do a deal with Bing?

The advertising is only in those nine tiles on the speed dial page. Once you have surfed enough to fill up those tiles the advertisments will be rotated out and you won't see them again. Or, you can just hit that icon (9 squares) in the upper right corner of the speed dial page and hide speed dial from the start. This is actually a non-siiue.

Some folks are blowing this out of proportion without having read the entire article.
