my Promise Pegasus Raid, connected via TB, seems to be getting on in years and at all
the connection via a sensitive 20 m TB cable annoys me, so I've been thinking about switching to an internal solution for quite some time

I need 8TB - speed doesn't have to be crazy (the Promise is currently about 500mb / s) - I see several options:

1. OWC ACCELSIOR 4M2
very fast, but expensive - about 1900 €
Speed up to 6 GB / s

2. Sonett Fusion Raid Card + 2x 4 TB Sata SSD in Raid 0
with 2 Samsung 870 QVO 4TB significantly cheaper (750 €) - speed up to 1 GB / s

3. 1x Samsung 870 QVO 8TB via OWC Accelsior S
also just under 750 € - but max 550 MB / s

Any opinions or other options?

In the upper area it has Mac Pro Sata connections. Is it possible to attach an SSD directly to it?

I also read that PCI-cards will be powered off during sleep so the drives will be ejected. Can someone confirm this and is there maybe a workaround (except letting the Mac never sleep)

I have two Sonnet M.2 4x4 Silent PCIe Cards, one with four Samsung 970 2TB M.2 SSDs, and the other with four HP EX950 2TB SSDs.

Both cards work fine. The HP SSDs cost significantly less than the Samsungs. The HP SSDs had to be RMA'd before they would work correctly - all it cost was the time to do it, and the return postage. I also had to update the firmware for the HP SSDs which required a PC to accomplish.

You could save some money going with the HPs, but in the end you'll have to decide if it's worth it. My experience was a number of months ago, so you may or may not have any problems. Both sets of SSDs are quite fast!

You pays your money and takes your choice!
