Hi, really need some help here. I was going to repaste my dual cpus and Northbridge but when removing the board I noticed a capacitor loose on the tray. This is a 4,1 with a Dual CPU tray. I tried to reassemble but the machine won't turn on, just got a red flashing ovtmt CPU A and B.
The red flashing is both with and without CPUs installed.

So I guess the capacitor is important :) . I have tried to locate where it could be missing based on photos of a working board ...but no success, can't locate it.If anyone with experience could take a look I would really appreciate it.

I should mention that the machine works perfect with my other single cpu tray, so the problem is with the missing capacitor ...

Thanks IMG_7409.PNG IMG_7407.jpg IMG_7408.jpg IMG_7385.jpg

Sorry for your loss.

The images are are not hi-res enough to tell where the Cap came from.
Only you will be able to check.

Have a look in this to if it came from there:

Zooming into the very first picture you have posted (showing the capacitor), this looks to me that the solder pad is still attached. It looks like a little plate. If this is correct, it means the solder pad got loose, not the solder. It means for your search on the PCB, not to look for a metallic shiny empty solder pad, but a dark spot, where the pad/capacitor combo used to be. If my suspicion is correct, it also means a more difficult repair, even if you find the spot, because you will need to follow the power rail where the solder pad was located and find a new spot, large enough to scrape off isolation and attach a wire to connect it which needs to be done twice for both resistor/capacitor contacts. Can you check if that is a solder pad or not?

Maybe there exactly in the middle

If not check out spots you have beed touched with screws, fingernails or tools.

Most common are the holes for the northbridge rivets.

Tbh I doubt a bit that a single Missing C would prevent the board from starting. Its rather unusual. But never say nevery, anyway.

If you dont find it ignore and make 2nd test ride.

Thanks for all replies, thanx for all suggestions ... no luck so far. Spent hours comparing to photos of a working board nothing seems to be missing... very strange.....anything else that could cause the flashing OVTMP CPU ?
