I know Apple only supports their own drives, but my older 2006 Mac Pro uses WD SATA drives just fine as well as a boot OSX Intel SSD. I have a SSD booting my newly purchased 2009MP.
I want to do a RAID 5 with this and have purchased an Apple Raid card and a fresh battery for it.
I need to get hard drives and I heard there is a 2TB limit for the Apple RAID card. Is this true?
Anyone have experience using particular drives, etc?
WD Red? (Western Digital Red, maybe?
I read about a firmware update for the Apple RAID. That's help?
Thanks everyone.

I have and like reds a great deal I have them in my home server I'd imagine they'd be fine in your box. I have not used an Apple RAID card in many years so I can't speak about the size limit but at the time the card was made 2TB drives were pretty big.

I had just read that for Apple RAID to do a RAID5 you need certain features or something.
