iPod mp3 128 kbps upgrade...

I all,

I did a search but found no good answer?

The question is:

I have a lot mp3 at 128 kbps on my old iPod... ( found him back) Can I upgrade these mp3 @ back to 224 kbps or higher?

Yes, just rip your CD's again.

There's 2 way:
1. Rerip your cd
2. Itunes match. If your albums are in the itunes library, the matched albums will be download at 256 kbps if you remove it from your itunes.

Never "upgrade" your 128 kbps to higher rate using software. 128 kbps mp3 is lossy compression. What's loss during the compression from cd to 128 kbps can't be repopulate.

If you "upgrade" using software, technically, the file size is bigger, it says higher rate, but it's actually adding artifact to make it higher bit rate.

I'm not a sound engineer, so forgive me if the terms are not 100% correct

Ok, Thank you all.

I once owned these cd's or vinyl, still got a few but not all. The same for my old iTunes library a way back to my old (fried by fire) Apple Mac Server G4 450...
Just want them back (nostalgia) on my stereo in a good way of sound!
But I take the 128 kbps gladly for the memories.

iTunes Match or Amazon Cloud Player will both upgrade anything it can match to 256kbps. So, it's the easiest option.
