I am the only guy who doesn't really care about whether or not the mp3s you download onto the iPod will be able to be used as ringtones? I honestly don't care for this because I have never been a fan of hearing a song just randomly be blasting when someone is calling, let alone an annoying song. I just like to have the classic (or something close to) ringtone. Yes, some classic ringtones are annoying too, but providers give you the option of changing it to another ringtone, one that isn't a song.

Also, someone brought up an interesting point. Let us say that you can use your mp3s as ringtones, what happens when you're using the headphones that are included with the iPhone? Well the current song be interrupted by another song, the ringtone applied to the callase? That would seem really odd to me. Don't you guys think?

So who's with me on this one? Who doesn't care about whether or not you'll be able to use your mp3s as ringtones?

I couldn't care a less, my old Sony Erricsson didn't allow you to set MP3's as ringtones. I just have my phone set to vibrate anyway.

I'm not that fussed whether I can use an mp3 as a ringtone. I don't do it with my current phone, or any of the one's I've had before.

I generally just have my phone vibrate rather than any kind of tone to be honest.

Mp3 as ringtone pfft.

I use video ringtones., Fur Q with Uzi Lover makes a very good ringtone.

I may or may not get the iPhone when it comes out, partial because i will have just spent all my money one a month long trip to Thailand and Malaysia, assuming it comes out in Q4 over here in the UK.

Will it change my mind on buying it or not, maybe not but it all adds up.

Blimey, didn't know there was such a thing as video ringtones.

Where about in Malaysia are you going? You should check it Borneo, it's truely amazing, especially if you go to Sepilok (orangutang reserve) :)

I'm still kinda cheesed about the "We're not sure about using your own music as ringtones" bit re: the iPhone. I mean, honestly who DOESN'T want Raffi singing "RING RING RING RING RING RING RING, BANANAPHONE!" every time they get a call? :D

Wait, you mean I'm the only one?

Aww. :(

I just want to know how long it'll be before our home "landline" telephones can be configured with MP3 ringtones? Maybe I can wire one of those up to my home stereo equipment so when someone calls me, it shakes my whole f***ing house and forces my neighbors to listen to "My hump, my hump... my hump my hump my hump! Check it out!" :p

Hahaha. Brilliant. :D

you can already do that with some cordless telephones. as long as they have a USB port. :)

I sure do want mp3 ringtones...i like the fact that i can customize everything on my phones, my ringtones

i think that you are going to have to purchase ringtones the same way you would itunes. personally i don't care i just use vibrate anyway.

HAHAHAHA... I use VIDEO RINGTONES TOO. High five! Too bad they always make my battery die for my Sony Ericsson Z610i. =( But I love video ringtones.

The fact that a ringtone from the Verizon store or some other carrier, actually costs more then a single from iTunes is enough of a reason to want to use MP3s as ringtones.

My Sony Ericsson from Cingular initially restricted me to 30sec/DRM'ed MP3s (bought from them), but I reflashed the phone with the original SE firmware, and now use my files to great effect...the Pirates of the Caribbean theme makes a great ring!

I've got a Sony Ericsson W850i and i can use any mp3 i want as my ringtone, i didn't have to reflash or anything like that.

I like the idea of being able to use mp3's as ringtones, it gives people the freedom they want. People don't want to be told they have to purchase a song from somewhere specific just to use it as a ringtone. With the iPhone having iPod functionality i don't see why not you can't use anything in your library, or any other mp3 for that matter, as a ringtone. Seems like more hassle not to allow it.

I definitely hope they decide to add this as a feature. I really like being able to choose my own ringtones, or even create something original.

And if they don't add this as a feature, I hope somebody finds a way to hack it into existence. :)

I don't care either. I can't stand it when others peoples use them as well. I would like a descent selection of 'classic ringers' though because I like to use ringers to identify callers (rather than having to look at the phone)

No!

They should ban songs being played through the speakerphone. I despise it everytime I'm on the bus or the London Underground some dumb chav has a dreadful "song" playing and irritating everyone else. They've stolen the 'phone so why they as well steal some earphones. Thank God for Shure earphones.

I like the idea but only if I have the freedom/choice to use/create my own. I would love to have small clips from my favoriet Tegan and Sara or Sleater-Kinney songs for example.

The inclusion of MP3s as ringtones will have no influence on my purchase decision. That being said, for the price of the phone, I'd expect such a basic feature to be implemented. Especially given the fact that it's advertised as a media-rich device and many other media-rich phones include the ability.

The feature is already there, and it'd be a shame if they didn't implement it. I don't care if it's MP3 or AAC, but the ability should be there using a widely-adopted standard.

I don't think i'll be buying one anytime soon as I just purchased a new Nokia.. But.. that would bother me.. I enjoy being able to set mine to whatever i want or make my own. With a phone like the iPhone.. It seems silly that it wouldn't have that feature.. But I'm sure as with any phone that has the option disabled.. there will be ways to unlock the function.
