Hello,

One of my favourite bands release music on their own website store which you can buy, download it onto a Mac, unzip it, then drag it into iTunes. This is then added to my iTunes Match so I can listen to it wherever.

Is there a way you could do this just by using iOS devices?

I ask, because it's new computer time for me, and this, no joke, is the only thing I need a Mac for. Other than this I'm sure I could just use an iPad + iCloud.

Thanks in advance.

I feel your pain! I’m in the same exact boat as you are. Unfortunately I don’t believe there’s a way. As much as a Mac is probably your preference, if it’s the only thing you use it for, I’d almost lean towards just getting a cheap windows device for this scenario.

I’ve got a 2012 Mac Mini currently which I can use to do this, but I’m thinking longer term...Mac or iOS. If I can do this on iOS then I don’t need a Mac...

I really wish there was a way to do this. You need to upload the tracks into iTunes on a computer for it to be uploaded to your iCloud Music Library which will allow you to listen to it on all of your devices.

This is the only reason why I cannot use my iPad pro as a full laptop replacement. Even an iPad doesn't have iTunes or a way to upload tracks/files to your iCloud Music Library. If it did, I would finally be able to get rid of my Mac Mini. Unfortunately, I'm holding onto my 2009 Mac Mini for this exact reason. It seems pointless to have to keep a computer just to manage my iCloud Music Library. I'm hoping Apple addresses this in iOS 13 (or at least give the iPad this functionality).

I have an iPhone XS Max, Apple Watch, 11" iPad Pro, Apple TV 4K, and a Mac Mini. I'm deeply invested in the Apple Ecosystem, but once my Mac Mini craps out, I'm going to get a cheap Windows computer for managing my iTunes library since that's the only thing i need a computer for.

I was almost thinking about getting an old Mac mini for this very purpose since my old windows laptop is crapping out. Do you think even like a 2012 model would be on to buy? Looking on the cheap.

My 2009 is still going strong with no signs of slowing down. I maxed out the RAM and put a SSD in it a few years ago and it's almost like it got a new breath of life. I can't upgrade it past El Capitan but that doesn't seem to be a problem so long as iTunes is still supported, which it still currently is. A 2012 would probably be a great option if you're just managing music. It's also nice to have a Mac just in case I need to restore my iPhone using DFU or something like that.

But once Macs are past being supported by the latest OS, aren’t they declared vintage, and does the now out of date OS stop receiving security updates? Otherwise I could just hang on to my 2012 for longer...decisions...

Mine received an update a few weeks ago, though i'm not exactly sure what was in that update.
If there's no issues with your 2012, personally, I would keep using that. Especially if you're only using it for music.

Apple typically provides security updates for the current major version of operating system (right now that's Mojave, 10.14.x), and the previous two major versions. So even if your 2012 Mini can't run whatever operating system that comes after Mojave, it'll still probably get security updates for 2 years from this fall.
