Hi Guys,

I've been searching this forever and never really got a clear answer to this... I have MP5,1 with RX580. I also have the original HD5750 that came with system. I've tried to search ways to clean install Mojave onto my system, but couldn't even past installer.

do I really need a 'mac' edition graphics card that is metal supported or there are other ways to do this with RX580?

thanks for the help

Yes two disks, bootstrap the first part of the install from macOS. You don't need a EFI card.

Thanks tsialex... however, can you give me a bit more details on what bootstrap is? I google it, but all I've got is some app development software...

thanks again

It's an expression.

You have one drive with macOS and another empty. From the macOS, you open the Mojave installer then select the empty drive. The installer will install on the empty one, will reboot and continue, you don't need a Mac EFI card, since you will have GPU working drivers most of the install time.

You need to upgrade to MP51.0089.B00 before trying to install Mojave. Read: MP5,1: What you have to do to upgrade to Mojave

I just bought the RX580 for the same reason. (so it will be compatible with Mojave) See my earlier comments. I read before I bought it, that the RX580 IS Metal-compatible. I'll know in a week when i install the RX580.

I installed El Capitan, then Sierra and then Mojave on a 2012 i7 2.9Ghz MBP 9.2 today, to sell (I paid rent! Yay!), and after El Capitan it was easy-peasy. My 2009 MP, I think will be more difficult, and I'm working with a Vapor-X Sapphire HD 7950 PC version GPU, which doesn't really want to fit into the MP. I'll be patient, tho, I have a learning disability but I guess if I take it one step at a time, I'll get through it before Apple comes out with a new OS! :)

So--apologies, I can't start a new thread as I'm still a newbie--but after getting all the way up to High Sierra on my Mac Pro, I tried to install Bootcamp/Windows onto a blank drive and all I get now on both displays is a black screen with a white cursor--much more quickly than the usual boot-up process. I haven't tried installing a MacOS as I don't want to further screw up what might be an easy recovery (no, I don't have a backup) from something I simply don't know how to do.
Am I screwed here, or is there no reason to panic?

(Was running High Sierra, tried to update firmware to Mojave, but not install Mojave, and tried to install Windows 10 from an ISO disc I downloaded from the MS web site and put on a DVD.)
