MP5,1: Unreliable rebooting

Essentially can’t Restart from menu; have to select Shut Down. If I select Restart, after a 30 seconds to a minute I can click the power button and it will go off. Click it again and THEN it will boot. It’s like it has to be off for some time before it boots successfully, and even then, it's not guaranteed.

So my boot up process, if off, is: Click power button and wait 10 seconds, then click it again and the MP will shut off. Then click power button again and MP will start up. Restart process is essentially the same. The only way to tell whether a boot will take is if I press the power button. A successful boot will happen when I press the power button and it doesn't shut off.

So, is this hardware, or software? My guess is hardware, but what.

5,1. 12 Core. 48GB RAM. Radeon Pulse RX 580 8GB. Mojave 10.14.4. Boot drive is Samsung 960 EVO.

Probably one of two things or the two simultaneously:

  1. Failling PSU
  2. NVRAM corruption (specifically the 1st and 2nd streams)
To diagnose this correctly, I'd install a tested working PSU, do a backup your Mac Pro current BootROM and then flash the generic one from 10.14.4. After that, a clean install to an empty drive.

It could be that it's having trouble loading initial boot file from the drive. I had a similar problem a short while ago.

Just for peace if mind, do a clean install macOS onto another drive. Don't addd any applications. Remove the current boot drive.

See how it does with the clean install.

I also having the same issue. I ended up downgrading High Sierra .
So i could have boot screens with 2 video-cards installed .

I then noticed that the NVMe adapter with Mojave installed was not always showing up. I have ordered another type of adapter and will try Mojave again.

I did try and install Win10 using EFI mode ...failed 3 times. How can i tell if i corrupted my bios ?
