MPB don't buy?

Sometimes it is really difficult to predict. If you take a look at the other release times, some were twice as long as the current one, and some were half as long. I waited months for my MBP a year ago. Every Tuesday for almost two months everyone would go nuts because they all thought it would be released. If you need a laptop now, go ahead and get it. If you can afford to wait, maybe wait until the next one comes out, but you can get stuck waiting for the next best thing and never end up getting it.

Probably good advice, but the MBP spec I want takes 3 weeks to ship and if (BIG IF) a new MPB then comes out in Jan I'll be kicking myself.... :confused:

Think I'm probably going to play the same waiting game. But I'd like an insight to the probable specs to know if waiting is worth it....

Why does everyone keep saying they want it slimmer?

I mean it's slim enough, jeez.

You guys want it like paper thin where you cant put anything in it.
 
I bought my MBP about 2 weeks ago and LOVE it. I don't care if they release 10 new ones tomorrow. I am perfectly happy with the computer I bought. I researched and researched and knew exactly what I was buying.

This thing is awesome! I couldn't be happier with it! I say to anyone wanting a MBP (or a MB) just buy it! If you wait on the next "new" thing, you'll never buy anything! If you are happy with the specs that are available, then do it. If you want more, then wait.

I for one think that my 2.2 15.4" is an excellent piece of hardware with tons of awesome apps!

I'm a potential Mac user and I really appreciate the lifecycle posting. I come from a computer tech background, so I find this very very helpful.

Maybe we'll be lucky and see something in time for Xmas. My 3rd Dell laptop died, and I've been using a friend's Mac for a month. It's cool to have such a stable platform. As a user of Photoshop, I'm interested in see how that will be different.

The only upgrade I hope for is seeing 256 standard for the memory board. I can't see spending that much dough for the upgrade. It's either an Alienware or a Macbook Pro at this point(both are around the same price), and the Mac's stability and Bootcamp wins me over.

I cen't understand why PC companies keep using the old female laptop ac adapter plugs. They are breaking across all the PCs regardless of manufacturer. Honestly the Mac's design here should be stressed. It's elegant with it's breakaway design, lack of keying, and the insight into road warrior ergonomics.
 
In July I was preparing myself to wait for Leopard. I am so satisfied with my decision to just buy it back then. I upgraded to Leopard last week and my MBP is snappy and fast.

It would feel awful to have something new released within 20 days or so. But it doesn't make your 'outdated' computer any less capable.

Ultimately, I was willing to resell for a loss if there was tremendous improvements released. My MBP achieves great Geekbench results and its 'old' now; runs Pixelmator wonderfully!

and the MBP are more thinner then the alienware and weighs less..;)
 
Some questions

It's funny how I got interested in the Mac line. My daughter gave me her MacBook for possible repair. She had a water leak, it dripped on her MacBook, and she thought I could save it. As far I can tell it was hosed. It was full of the gypsum deposits from water dripping through a ceiling wallboard on to her laptop. I'm certain it has a bad motherboard, hard drive, and CDROM.

What I did find, when I opened it was how elegant the design was. I also found a site that told me how disassemble it piece by piece. Having opened laptops before, let me tell you, Macs are a snap by comparison.

I am curious though, is it possible to upgrade the video memory on a MacBook Pro myself? Is it merely a chip insertion on the graphics board, or is it an entirely different board to go from 128 MB to 256 MB? It's not a standard upgrade on the MBP line, if so I would have it factory installed. I can't afford to spend $400 more to jump up to the next level.

Good Lord, why do they stick with those kinds of power adapters? I just had to repair the socket on a friend's HP laptop. HP wanted $50 to ship me the replacement daughterboard... I ended up desoldering the broken socket, plating the broken part with some tin, and soldering it back together. A lot of work, but $50 for a 2x2cm square with a socket, and inducer, and a plug /exactly/ like the one on the adapter that hooks onto the mainboard just seems insane...
 
i decided to wait for a possible january release. i can barely wait, but i want the computer i buy be the latest and fastest.

Yeah - but any idea of what the Jan spec will probably be? I wish someone would tell me what is probably going to be the spec set for the next MPB upgrade.

Ordering now, will see delivery in December, so waiting until Jan isn't a biggie. But if the Jan update is only going to be a minor bump, then there's no real point in waiting. Ho hum. :(
 
people are expecting to see upgrade to new intel penryn processors, which would yield extra performance. that alone is not a huge upgrade, but not a small one too. who knows what it will do to the performance? look at what santa rosa meant.

Maybe waiting for Jan is a waste of time ... we might get an announcement in Jan but no new MPBs until Feb or March.
 
yes, i see... and when jan comes and they annoucne an update for march it will be only 2 months from that point, so why not wait till then? and in june/july they might go to quadcore and it would really be a pity not to wait 3,4 more months and get a quadcore machine. after all you will keep it for next few years and the performance difference is drastic.

i better go and buy a macbook pro now.:cool:
