MPEG1 Help

Hey all

I did a search for this and cant find ANYTHING, but I know good ol Macrumors can help...

I need to convert a quicktime movie (animation compression, with audio) to a MPEG1 Muxed (.mpg) file.

Seems harder than I'm sure it is, but there are NO QuicktimePro/FCP settings for Mpeg1, just mpeg4.

Are there any good freeware converters that anyone knows of?

i've never used it, it's free, and it seems like it's very slow...
i read 20-30 min for 10 sec... but it's free

do you have toast? i think toast can do this...

quicktime pro will convert .mov files to mpeg1 (toast video cd is mpeg1). also ffmpeg will convert anything to anything... great app.

It will? QT can convert from MPEG1 (though it looses the soundtrack), and if you've got the seperate plugin it can play back MPEG2, but I think you need a plugin that comes with Toast to be able to export .mpeg files. So really, you'd need to buy both Toast and QT Pro.

FFmpeg works great though, so long as you can get it installed.

I think this was only an option with Toast 5.x because there is no plug-in with version 6 that gets installed into QT.

Toast will make video cd, the .dat files in the MPEGAV folder are mpeg1 & can be copied to your desktop & renamed. Movie2mpeg works & Cleaner 6. Ive not found a way of exporting mpeg 1 from QT or FCP/Compressor.
