Mpgs & quicktime

Ok Heres the deal, Useing quicktime 6.2 I have q Mpg file, that I know is 50 minutes long. If i jump to the last frame using the button bar, I see the last frame. but if I just let i play from the begining, I see only the first 2 minutes, and then it freezes.

If I use the scroll bar in the center, I can jump around at various points in the file, (ex 40 min, 30 min 41 min... you get the picture) but I have no control as to where I stop. And when I play it from that point, it will only play the next minute because the scroll bar reaches the end.

The file is over 200Mb so I know the info is there, but it treasts it as a 2 minute file. I have tried running it through Media cleaner, but that doesn't seem to work.

What is up with the file? I don't believe it to be a bug in my system, because other files of that size play fine......

This happens to alot of my files too porn, bittorrents and home movies mostly, use VLC found at versiontracker.com or mplayer also foudn at versiontracker. Both of these prorgams are great additiosn to quicktime and allow full screen viewing for free. Hope that helps, nearly every mac user has this problem with his first few mpegs.

...yeah... those are really the only mpegs i have ... i can honestly think of one of my friends who bought an emac... one of his top reasons for selling it was that the mac cut all his porn in half...i swear to god he would say that if you asked him... the mepg thingg is a big issue but to me it seems like most files that mpeg files that quicktime can't play are a bit more controversial than the standard apple distributed movie or from another big company.

You really need to appreciate those Toast Video CD files (or simply .mpg files).

I would recommend downloading both VLC AND MPlayer, unless you are beta-frantic. If you don't trust betas, then you may want to avoid both products.

I got sick of VLC real fast, but try it (at your own risk) and see if it works. Do the same for MPlayer. You may need to use both portions of software to test different files.

Then again, I don't have a 50 minute .mpg file...

I do, anyway, scroll slower, yeah if you skip, some glitch causes Quicktime not to reconize all of the file, dunno.

Scroll slower or use VLC/Mplayer, personally if it don't work on Quicktime M Player has always been there.

.avi <--- use DiVX doctor also.
