MPlayer crashes my mac and VLC won't even open...what's going on?!

ok, VLC opens in the dock then the icon disapears..and that's it...nothing..everytime I try.

I was using Mplayer, but since i updated to 10.4.5 on intel, when I try and open it, it comes up fine then everything freezes, I can still move my mouse cursor, but everything including the dock and all windows are frozen, I have to hold the power button to restart the machine.

anyone know what's going on? and how I can fix this?

I can now only watch quicktime movies and my collection is mainly mpg's which won't open in QT *sigh*

I don't believe VLC or MPlayer is Intel ready yet. Did you repair permissions? Its always a good idea to repair permissions before and after an OS update.

MPlayer was working fine on 10.4.4 on intel *shrug*

"QuickTime cannot open the file:
"Lost 2x14"
it is not a file that QuickTime understands (-2048)"

for almost all mpg's I try to open

Yeah believe it or not, there are mpg files that won't play in QT. I have a bunch of QT codecs installed that make that problem go away for the most part, but I still get some mpg files that don't play.

I imagine that something got incompatible with the OS X.4.5 update. Hopefully you'll see a native version of MPlayer and/or VLC soon.

So yes, repair permissions and see what that does. Probably won't help, but its something to try.

Renaming the file may help. I had the same issue

Perhaps your mpg files are MPEG-2 files. (Unless you have previously played them successfully.) MPEG-2 files require an additional software download from Apple that costs $19.99:

If you could email me the smallest such file (if it is under 3mb) then I will tell you if it plays successfully for me and then we will know if it is the file or your computer.
