So I can see the reasoning for it with GPU and the Raid systems.

Can anyone see other uses for it?*

That is kinda harsh....

On the other hand, the target audience for MPX products will be limited to the 7,1 population.

On the third hand (as Lt. Arex would say), how many SSDs could you fit in an MPX module? Mass NVMe storage could be a thing.

But "limited audience" means "high prices" relative to commodity devices.

And just think, that if Intel/Apple hadn't made the mistake of requiring T-Bolt to carry graphics, that there'd be no reason to have the proprietary MPX modules. Well no reason outside of vendor lock-in.

So each standard PCIe slot can provide 300W of power
475W to an MPX Module using the extra connector.

So actually the MPX connector is
TO allow extra power
PCIE overhead Free thunderbolt3 though the system*
Avoid extra cables ( My 1080 has
Heatsink fan free design

If your GPU requires more than 300W of power, you’ll need to buy a Belkin AUX Power Cable Kit to provide it with the extra juice

So a bit of digging and while it's proprietary. It's royalty free so any enterprising Board maker could make use of it - But not actually many cards would need the extra power.

*You still get the thunderbolt3 thought the system with normal PCIE cards but it used the PCIE bandwidth.

- a card that provides for multiple U.2 SSDs to be plugged into it like the M.2 cards with heatsinks etc but without fans or cables.
- throw in a TOSLINK and FW800 port for good measure

Hell yea, bring on the FiWi800 MPX expansion module :D
 
Well releasing the Radeon Pro W5700X unit would be a start. What's the hold up? It's only a frickin' GPU in a box.

At least announce pricing. It’s a holdup for potential orders in several client offices.

Also, AMD 5XXX drivers need work. Little to no improvement vs 10.15.2 so far.

What do you mean by requiring Thunderbolt to carry graphics? Couldn't you just plug in a commercial Radeon VII and use the Displayport port to connect it to a monitor?

FW800 ? Nah , didn't they do research on FW1200 ?

Optical Audio would be cool - I'm certain all of 4 , maybe 5 ppl would use it ( I'm one of them ) .

A port is an awful thing to waste ...

Nice ideas!
A normal PCIE card could prove the 100w to USB-C
U.2 or M2 big storage cards will definitely happen.

The MPX connector carries the Video out from an MPX cars to ANY TB3 port on the system. On the IO Card and even the Top ports. I just tested it.

My Vega2 duo can Support for up to eight 4K displays, four 5K displays, or four Pro Display XDRs!! Wondered how you are supposed to plug the things in! 4 ports on card... 4 ports on the system.

You can plug in a Radeon VII - but you do have Sleep issues... MacVidCards might sort that out

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210392 has the answer but it's only 2 XDR's for a Vega II duo (and more lower resolution)

And you need to use on port each of the back and top port to get the additional 5K monitors.
