The MPX modules look really interesting from a GPU perspective, but I wonder whether Apple will utilize them for anything else in the future (or license the tech - if necessary - to 3rd party vendors)? Specifically, the new tower feels lacking by way of internal storage, but a module that could hold 2-3 traditional 3.5" HDDs would open up a significant possibility for huge capacities. Or some variant of PCIe cards for crazy fast additional storage.

There must be dozens of other uses that simply don't occur to me. What do people think?

No, it’s a proprietary vendor lock-in as far as I am concerned. We should be happy that we are getting 2 x 8-pin and 1 x 6-pin power connector.

It's possible the 3rd party options will be more limited, but Apple could certainly add functionality. It would shock me if they didn't, considering they did all of this engineering on a proprietary modular solution. Why limit it to GPUs?

Seems like exactly what you're looking for...

That was fast, and exactly the sort of thing I had in mind. Thanks!
