This is the first adventure in the "MR Design Contest Saga" with hopefully many more to come. Depending on the amount of interest and participation, I may create a rolling leaderboard and develop a "points system" to keep track of everything. This first contest there will be no prize, but hopefully I can come up with something if we get lots of entries! I am going to add a "Poll" to this thread and hopefully be able to edit it for voting once all the entries are posted.

For the sake of keeping track of everything, please do NOT post in this thread without an accompanying entry. For example, if you post an image with your entry, you may also post a message for discussion. Otherwise, please use the other thread that was created for questions or concerns about the contest.

RULES

-Only one (1) entry per user is permitted. You may adjust your entry up until the contest closes.
-Only post one (1) entry and use an external image hosting site and tags to post your image.
-Entries will be accepted through TBA
-Voting (which is still be determined for the method) will take place after 9PM EST on TBA and will go through TBA at 9PM EST.
-All work created must be original and can be watermarked appropriately if you would like.

CRITERIA[/SIZE][/B]

As the title states, create your best icon for an iTunes and QuickTime combination application. Use your imagination! The existing icon designs don't need to be implemented. The constraints for your submitted image must be 128x128px. I will post my entry in the next few days, but the contest starts now!

EDIT: Just so everyone is aware, you don't have to enter as soon as you post. If you want to make a post as a "placeholder" to notify that you're entering, that is perfectly fine, just edit the post before the contest is over and add your entry!

I beg to differ. An Apple icon has size constraints that could significantly affect how the art and design look under real-world conditions. If we let people submit 1280 x 1280, we won't be able to accurately judge how well it will suit 128 x 128 (or smaller).

I'd top out the size at 128 x 128 for final art.

I second this

128x128 it is! I'll update the OP.

I will have to put my thinking cap on tomorrow. I just hope the pro's can teach me some things as we go along. Looking forward to it.

Guess I will go first. Here's to getting my feet wet. 128 x 128. Please notify if I have done anything that does not follow the rules. Think I got it.

Cheesy 1970ish iridescent version.

So sue me ... I'm that old.

More abstract ...

I know it's a day late, but I only read about this an hour ago.

Voting?

It's more about creating.

Give people time.

There're few people flakier than graphic designers.

I should know.

I believe Mr. Fx is referring to this section of the OP rather than trying to hurry people along:

-Voting (which is still be determined for the method) will take place after 9PM EST on Saturday, August 30th and will go through Monday, September 1st at 9PM EST.

I'm going to extend the deadline so people can continue to enter. Good looking entries everyone!

Great! A contest like the old days!

Here's my submission. I got the same idea as AngerDanger. Kept it simple and used the "play" button icon as a connected symbol between iTunes and QuickTime. Also kept the inner ring that references the icon in a very subtle way to the QuickTime icon. Some other lines and gradients represent a sort of multimedia theme and abstract eye. I made this icon in Yosemite style.

I also made a mock-up/presentation of the icon. I couldn't resist it to try it out. Hope you guys like it. :)

And a link to the mock-up.

Some very nice looking entires! If you know anyone else on the forum that would be interested in throwing something together, PM them and send a link to the thread! I'm going to setup a way to vote in the next few days, so keep the submissions coming until then. Don't worry about the poll in the first thread, that's not working as planned as I can't edit it now. I'll come up with something.

Once again, very nice looking icons. If you have any recommendations on our next contest, post them here as well.

This thread is like most of my design projects. Expectations are made, then completely changed/ignored, and then the project falls off the face of the earth, to be heard from again once everyone had forgotten about it.

Next step: to be told it needs to be finished immediately. :)
