Why doesnt MS just grab onto a Linux distro, modify it, and make that windows? Just scrap all legacy apps, or provide a way like Apple did with os9 and classic in the interm

it seems that to have a unix/linux foundation would provide advantageous in the form of security at least

The whole reason people stay with Windows is backwards compatibility. If they are forced to move to Linux, why spend money on this new "Winix" (I just made that up) when something like Ubuntu is already established and free? After all, you'd be moving to *nix either way.

Because they're developing something called Midori to replace windows. It will run Windows in Emulation if needed and sleep with your women...
