Hi,

Running mojave, but similar slow opening problems with high sierra too.

MS WORD has always been incredibly slow to open up when clicking on the Dock icon for it.
But, it (finally) does. Several minutes, at times.

Now in Mojave, after closing it out, I can't get it to start again.
No amount of clicking on either the Dock icon, or the icon in the APP folder seems to work.

Any ideas what might be going on ?
Or, what to do about ?

Anyone else experiencing these types of problems ?

How would i check if MS, maybe, has issues a new rev for WORD, or a patch for this problem, or...?

Thanks,
Bob

Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to help me out with this.

What is: .plist ?

Where/how would I remove it ?

Thanks again,
Bob

Open Word, check under Help-Check for Updates. It's a 2-step process. (Updater, then Office apps). At least this is how it works on the perpetual version of 2016.

But Word has always opened as quickly as expected on my systems. I agree with above - theorist is probably the issue.

Hi,

Not yet, but will.
Haven't had a chance.

First, I will do the WORD updating, which apparently there
are a few rev's.

I think I wasn't too clear on this:
If I leave running WORD in the Dock so that it has the dot underneath
the dock icon, it "runs" immediately" and opens up right up.

But if there is no dot, and I click on it, then it takes "forever".

Regards,
Bob

Did it work Bob?

Are you using a HDD or a SSD? It takes several minutes for it to open in my case but I am using a older Mac with a HDD. As a result I have chosen to use Pages instead for most tasks.

Hi,

Using a SSD on a relatively new iMac desktop.

Up to now, I thought I was the only one experiencing this incredibly slow opening of WORD !!
Guess not.

Basic solution seems to be to simply leave running; the dot appears below the dock icon for.
When clicked on, it then "starts" immediately.

Only problem with this, for me, is that if i use Bootcamp, when switching back to the OS, WORD
then goes back to bouncing around for several minutes, at least.

Word and Excel are the only 2 APPS I have that behave this way.

Regards,
Bob

Same problem for me. However I have a HDD with a 2012 MacBook Pro so for me its expected. For you its not.

I have two machines, a 2016 MacBook and a 2017 iMac. The MacBook launches Word in around 2 seconds, the iMac launches Word in around 20 seconds. I have tried hundreds of things trying to speed up Word on the iMac, reading through lots of forums, and have had zero luck. The iMac has a 3TB Fusion drive, I was thinking of upgrading it to pure SSD to see if it sped up Word, but it looks like it might not.

This is one of the reasons I have changed to Numbers and Pages. All the standard Apple apps launch near instantly on the iMac, only Word and Excel are incredibly slow.
