while I do have problem with the choice of websites being tested. MS's document does address some fundamental facts about the browser speed that seems to have got lost in this heated js speed race.

Not too surprising really. IE 8 really has kicked it up a notch in the last few beta releases.

It certainly feels just as "fast" as Firefox, Safari, and Chrome.

Too bad Opera isn't as fast. I just can't get away from certain features that it offers...

I skimmed some of MS's document. They make a lot of really good points about optimizing speed testing validity. I'm curious to know the analysis of what aspects of IE8's performance make it faster. Perhaps there are things that can ultimately benefit all the browsers. Also would be curious to see how Safari does using MS's methodology. It's curious they chose Chrome with which to compare and not Safari, in spite of Safari's larger marketshare.

years ago I read that somebody suspect MS IE is skipping steps in normal communication steps between browser and server. Unconfirmed.
