Multi-button mouse drivers fro MacOS

I have seevral 6 and 8 button mice that can only use their 1,2 and 3 buttons with MacOS: is there a way to get MacOS to receive and act on clicking on the other buttons?

I use SteerMouse for support and programing of multi-button mice. It works very good for me. It is not free.

One of two: either the mouse was never designed for macOS (Windows usually support such things natively); or there might be drivers for it on the manufacturers web site. Look it up.
If there are none, use the suggestion above or a similar solution.

I agree. What brand and model are the mice? I know for a while, Macs had only 1-button mice due to the "simplicity" while Windows, and Unix/Linux has 2+ button mice. Simplicity at the expense of usefulness still seems to be a bit of a tradition.

Try karabiner-elements. It is free and open source. It installs software that causes previously-undetected keys from mice and keyboards work.
