http://support.apple.com/downloads/Multi_Touch_Trackpad_Update_for_Windows___Vista

Prior Symptoms (From Apple):
-When using your thumb to click an item the cursor may move slightly and not select the intended item.
-The cursor may shake when you press or remove your finger from the trackpad.
-If you press down with your thumb, then use your finger to select or drag an item, the cursor may unexpectedly release.

First of all, I'm glad that Apple has taken the time to address this major issue (finally). However, it's worse now than it was before IMO.

Resulting Symptoms:
-Single-finger physical click still does not register 20% of the time.
-When using thumb to click and drag, the cursor still releases, but now registers as a double-click.
-Tap-to-click now works, but is waaayyyy too sensitive (just browsing the web took me to 10 different unintended links simply by moving the mouse around the page)
-Tap-to-click also registers as a double click more often than not.
-Two-finger tap to click now works, but you can't click out of it with your thumb still on the trackpad.
-Two-finger scroll sensitivity still hasn't been addressed.

Edit: So, most of the problems above are simply because I had tap-to-click enabled in the settings (which I would prefer, but since the feature does more harm than good, I turned it off.) Now, everything seems to be working better, except for the fact that the three-finger physical right click doesn't work anymore. Meaning, without tap-to-click enabled, you can't right click in Boot Camp.

I'm absolutely frustrated, and wishing I could return this 9-day old machine for a full refund. Instead, I'll just have to anxiously await another patch (but I'm not holding my breath).

Ever since installing the update, my laptop has been running badly. Vista is blue screening (missed the .dll file that made it crash) and iTunes will stop outputting audio if I use the trackpad. It will work fine if I use a mouse, but the second I touch the trackpad, bad things happen. Anyone else having this issue?

EDIT: It's not just iTunes. Any application or program that is using the sound device will stop working when I am using the trackpad. It does not have to be in the foreground to stop working either. I reinstalled the driver and am still having the same issue. Help?

I would try a system restore... unfortunately that isn't an option for me. I deleted all my backups before I knew there was a problem. DANG!!!!

So am I one of the only ones having issues with this trackpad causing sound problems and BSODs? I'm sure it is the trackpad because I can invoke it by using the trackpad. Using an external mouse works fine, but one small touch to the trackpad will kill my music. I'm wondering if it's a hardware problem. I've been having lockups in Windows that I have not seen since Windows 98, and Vista blue screened for the first time since I started using it in 2006. I also have bad audio glitches when my wireless card searches for a new network. Hopefully Apple cannot really ship or at least not acknowledge a laptop with so many known problems. I wonder if this problem is with the 9600 card since I never use it in OSX and I never have any problems like this in OSX.

By the way, I sent the laptop off Saturday to get the keyboard fixed. I called back last night reporting this problems as I did not have time to explain this at the store and the Genius said "Well that's just Windows for you." Very immature if you ask me... Also, I think it is VERY stupid that I had to send my laptop off in the first place. My 'Delete' key had a broken clip on the underside of the key that would make it jam and pop off when I used it. This could have been fixed by simply putting a new 'Delete' key in an envelope and sending it to me, but per Apple's procedure, I have to have the whole top case fixed, meaning the unibody, keyboard, trackpad, and whatever else they stuff in it. It's a waste of my time as well as Apple's time.

Hi! I am also having the exact same problems with Vista and trackpad and audio output. I already submitted a bug report to apple in the Macbook feedback and Bootcamp feedback.

Maybe someone has a solution?

When FedEx delivers my laptop back, I will try to find a solution if Apple didn't find one while they had my laptop. I have a bad feeling that they did a reformat :(. I'm at least glad someone else is having this issue besides me.

I have a 130MB video file of what's occurring, but the computer I'm one doesn't even have the required specs to run Movie Maker.

Fortunately for me I have no BSODs and Vista seems to work fine as well as the Broadcom Wireless card (btw I updated the driver to 5.10 from Apple's 4.70 maybe you should try too?)
But the sound and the trackpad is driving me crazy, so I am using a usb mouse :(

I'm going to try totally wiping off my hard drive, reinstalling OSX and Windows, and see if I still have the same issue. I have an appointment setup at the Genius Bar at 4:20 on Sunday. It is ridiculous that I have such an expensive computer that cannot run Windows stably and cannot even play music.

So I completely wiped off my hard drive to a clean slate. No OSX, no Windows. Took off all the partitions, erased hard drive, created new partition, installed OSX, setup Bootcamp, installed Windows Vista Ultimate again, installed all the updates, and tested iTunes again. The problem still exists. Not sure what is up. It's not my trackpad, they just replaced the whole top case. It's either a logic board problem, or my suspect, software problem.

So really... no one else is having this issue besides ahsirg and me?

The good news is that I have not blue screened or froze yet. *Knocks on wood*

How to uninstall the driver update

Here's the thing, the new trackpad update improves the trackpad but messes up sound device. I couldn't play any games longer than 10 seconds after this update. I already reinstalled windows without knowing this update was causing the problem. So I installed it again on fresh windows and flipped out when I noticed the problem continued. Tought that my machine was faulty. Thank you for this thread, now I know what caused the problem. Tought I'd have to install windows again but that's not the case, here's how you uninstall the trackpad update :

1. Open device manager
2. In "Human Interface Devices" right-click "Apple Multitouch" and open "Properties"
3. Go to tab "Driver" and click "Roll Back Driver"
4. Reboot

Yes the trackpad problems are back but at least I can play games now. Just use an external mouse guys.

Joined this forum just to tell you this, I was so glad that I didn't have to reinstall windows anymore.:)

I had hell uninstalling it... It wasn't this simple for me, but I hope that it this simple for everyone else. I think I will still go to the Apple Store tomorrow to demonstrate the problem since Apple won't listen to me over the phone as I can provide no real proof. I have a system restore made and now know how to remove it... I cannot believe that Apple could release an update with such a big bug!!! I wonder if this is effecting only a small percentage of consumers or everyone...

Qha, thanks for the tip, but I have already done that before, yes it works normally, but I just cant stand the old driver's ability to drag and drop. Guess there is a need to wait on Apple :(

Multi-Touch Trackpad Update for Windows XP and Vista

Im also have sound issues after installing the trackpad update. Brought the notebook in to apple and they said that it might be a faulty harddrive so they replaced it and after having to go through the pain of reinstalling windows again i find that this issue is still there, it is 100% a software issue and i cant believe Apple has not pulled this trackpad update.

Windows and Boot Camp is at the bottom of Apple's priority list. Will always be like that... The terrible trackpad driver is a prime example.

It should be high on the priority list. They advertise that these machines can run Windows, but in reality, they cannot.

I bought this laptop so I could run OSX and Windows, not just OSX. This is a college machine that I need to be reliable in both operating systems. When I cannot even use my trackpad, then there are some major problems with reliability.

Please Apple, for goodness sake, fix BootCamp instead of designing new products. Fix the products you already have.

I did the same thing. I feel a bit ripped off on the "can run Windows" part since Apple does advertise that this thing can run it. What they don't tell you is that they don't care about it so the drivers are complete junk and the trackpad doesn't even work properly.

I do love OSX on this thing but every time I have to run Windows for something I don't get mad at Microsoft, I get mad at Apple for making it such a big pain to use on their Macbook Aluminum.

Yeah, that's the unfortunate truth. They should also advertise the terrible battery life in Windows on their notebooks, which they also don't care about. Apple should probably drop the whole Boot Camp thing, in my opinion. I like their products and software, but I don't like their way of doing business. It's an unfortunate moral dilemma for me, because how a company performs its practices and business is important.

Yeah, that's the unfortunate truth.

The one consolation is at least there seems to be a few of us that are dissapointed in the drivers, especially the trackpad drivers on bootcamp. Gives some hope that there are reasonable people still out there instead of just rabid fanboys :)

guys just use the previous driver or roll back to it and use a regular mouse. imo windows runs very well and I couldn't hope for better performance in gaming and everything in bootcamp.
