Multiplayer and Co-Op on a single iMac (i.e., Portal 2)

How is the co-op on Portal 2 going to work? What will I need?

I'm assuming it will utilize split-screen... and then, can I simply hook in another keyboard and mouse?

I'm also curious about how multiplayer works for Left 4 Dead.

Also, is it possible to make it so that the split-screen is split between two monitors instead of a single screen?

Splitsceen is a console thing

A splitscreen PC game is a rare thing indeed. I would assume Portal 2 won't have splitscreen, as no other valve games have it - left 4 dead, for example. The multiplayer for that game is 1 player per PC.

Consider the following scenario: I purchase L4D2 or Portal 2 from Steam. I own an iMac and MBP. Can I access my Steam account from both computers and install the games on both computers? If so, couldn't I play multiplayer that way (i.e., one player on one computer, the other on another, hooked up via LAN, ethernet cable, wireless, etc.)?

Yeah I think that should be fine. I know one Steam account can work on multiple computers. It'll just send you a verification to add that computer to your Steam account and you should be able to log on. There may be a problem though, as I've never tried this out, but I'm not sure whether you can log on the same Steam account on two computers at once.

False!!! I have iMac setup with OSX and Win7, and I have the steam client installed on both. If I want to play LFD2 or Portal 1, you just have to resign in and you are fine, even with multiplayer games, for when you switch OSes. But there is a maximum limit to how many of those games are installed on different computers, I think it is 5.

This is what I was referring to. You can play multiplayer on >1 computer over LAN off of one copy, but it is against the ToS to do so.
